Low Sutton - Masham
100% undyed pure british wool from flocks of selective breeds of sheep sourced locally in the dales, moors and wolds of yorkshire
We are suppliers of an exclusive range of 100% pure British wool yarns from small flocks of selective sheep breeds sourced locally to us in the Dales, Moors and Wolds of Yorkshire.
We began by processing the fleeces from our own pedigree flock of Coloured Ryelands, an ancient British breed of sheep producing a fine soft fleece and have now expanded our range of yarns by approaching other smallholders and local farmers with different sheep breeds that all have good fleeces for spinning and wool crafts.
The fleeces are collected direct from our contacts and then processed to provide a variety of yarns from single ply to chunky aran. Judi also designs and hand knits / crochets individual items for sale or made to commission.
Judi has designed a range of knitting kits using the wool we produce categorised as beginners, adventurous and advanced ranges which come complete with pattern, needles and instructions included unlike many kits sold on the market. The beginner kits make knitting for beginners as easy as possible with simple designs and full instructions on how to knit.
We also have a range of haberdashery to compliment the yarns we sell.
Where yarn is named as Low Sutton (apart from our own flock) we have combined fleeces collected from a number of local smallholders, many of which only keep a small number of sheep. This makes it impractical to have the yarn traced back to a particular source due to the minimal weight required to run the spinning process.
Undyed natural British wool produces a beautiful yarn emphasising the variation of colour and characteristics of the different breeds. Wool left in its natural state will retain its softness. If dyed the wool will harden.
If you have found this page by chance and you are not a knitter, this could be the time to learn to knit and gain a practical skill which is becoming popular again. Learn to knit a scarf, or hat for the colder months and impress yourself and friends.
Our how to knit for beginners page illustrates the techniques of basic stitches like knit and purl.
Yarns are sold mainly in 50g & 100g balls.

One customer who bought some of our wool through our on line shop with Etsy made the following remarks ;-
I am delighted with my Blackwolds Jacob wool which arrived this morning. It looks exactly as in the photo and feels exactly as I'd imagined - this isn't just wool, this is real wool. I love the subtle colours in this wool and I am now looking forward to trying it in my next crochet project. Many thanks.
